MYRTLE BEACH BOWL - DEC. 20TH, 2020

  • The year and fear of COVID-19 dominated the world stage, and certainly had its impact on the College Football Bowl season. Considering that more than ½ of the approved bowl games were not played, kudos to the Myrtle Beach Bowl for starting their inaugural season in 2020!

The leaders of the Myrtle Beach Bowl are onto something. A great part of the country, well equipped to manage big events, the stadium is nice, and large enough to handle a typical bowl crowd. Our grade has to be Incomplete due to some of traditional bowl experiences such as Bowl souvenir’s, game day program, Fan Fest, etc. had to be cut with the late decision to let the game be played.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers rushed for 503 yards in route to a 56-28 victory over the North Texas Mean Green, in the inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl. The Mountaineers were led by Camerun Peoples, who ran for a bowl-record 317 yards and tied another mark with five rushing touchdowns to lead the Mountaineers.

Peoples scored on runs of 3, 64, 62, 4, and 11 yards for App State and he was named MVP of the Bowl game, which was played on the unique “Surf-Turf” field of Coastal Carolina University.

While the Mountaineers' dominance on the ground was the main storyline, the game was also a chippy affair, with one fight breaking out and several penalties and personal fouls between the two teams.
